AAUW Poway-Penasquitos Affiliate

Poway-Penasquitos – AAUW, chartered in 1971, supports women and girls in the local community through a Scholarship Fund and the Tech Trek program. The scholarship fund is aimed at supporting local women who are returning to college. Tech Trek, sponsored by AAUW/CA, sends local eighth grade girls to a science camp located on UCSD campus. An annual literary event, Cover to Cover, is held each spring to raise funds for our local scholarships.

Poway Penasquitos – AAUW encourages personal and professional growth through general   meetings held each month, special events such as our Fall Fund Raisers for AAUW Funds and  our Spring Fund Raiser, Cover to Cover for Scholarships and Tech Trek.  We also have many interest groups such as Happy  Hikers, book groups and a Traveler’s Lunch group. Additionally,  members are invited to attend the annual  AAUW California Spring Convention held in April featuring well known speakers and workshop sessions.

The Poway Penasquitos Affiliate of AAUW has over 100 members from Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Penasquitos, Scripps, Ramona, 4S Ranch, Carmel Valley and Escondido.  Having at least a two year degree is the requirement for membership.

AAUW California

 AAUW California was established in San Francisco in 1921.  With nearly 13,000 members in 140 branches, plus over 5,000 members-at-large, AAUW California is the state’s most active and diverse organization for women.

State programs include Speech Trek, Tech Trek, and Financial Literacy. Public Policy is a major focus and the AAUW CA employs a lobbyist for legislation on issues regarding women and girls.

AAUW National

The American Association of University Women (AAUW), established in 1881,  is a nationwide network of more than 100,000 members and donors, 1,000 branches, and 500 college/university institution partners.

For more than 136 years, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day — educational, social, economic, and political. Our commitment to our mission is reflected in all aspects of our work.
